As ballot returns started to come in last night, it became clear that Proposition 123 is headed to a photo finish. In recent weeks, other surveys had claimed that the proposal was in a strong position with 59.7% support in one push button poll. Another survey declared that Prop 123 was headed to a “big win” with 54.4% support.
On the other hand, HighGround released a poll on Monday that demonstrated the race was likely to go down to the wire. Click here to see the results of the live N=400 survey conducted the Friday before the election. The topline results for Proposition 123 were:
50.8% Total Yes
42.8% Total No
6.4% Don’t know, Refused
According to the Secretary of State, the current results stand at 50.5% Yes to 49.5% No. HighGround’s survey matches the current vote counts within three-tenths of a percent. Or as Channel 12’s Brahm Resnik tweeted last night, “IT MUST BE SAID @prbentz nailed it. Prop123.”
We talked about this very issue our blog last month. A survey is a “must have” – especially in the upcoming elections. However, not all surveys are created equal and accuracy is a critical component. HighGround has performed surveys on a wide variety of statewide and local issues providing accurate and unbiased survey data for our clients.
